The stunning ‘drunken’ beatworks of the single are so gorgeously intertwined with the soft twinkling keys that it makes you feel a bit tipsy, relaxing under the influence of the bubbliness of the composition.
Inspired by J Dilla and Stln Drms, with “The Drunken Gru-Ruv” ShoPaRo aimed to bring those 00s boom bap vibes to 2022, while adding his own flavour. The US producer elaborated:
With my love for both of the artists and being an avid finger drummer I really wanted to capture that” drunken” or “Dilla time” feel in this beat. With manipulating certain elements of the kit to be so human that “The 1” feels as if it’s super quantized. However, if you listen closely you can hear that the downbeat is always slightly moving with and never truly landing on an exact downbeat!
Certainly a gem for those of us who fancy a rather unorthodox and minimalistic approach.
