Portland-based duo New Constellations have officially unveiled their highly anticipated debut album, It Comes In Waves. Available now on all major streaming platforms via Nettwerk, the 13-track collection serves as a sonic exploration of the human experience, blending glittery indie-pop sensibilities with atmospheric alternative production.
Comprised of lifelong friends Harlee Case and Josh Smith, the project delves into the complexities of heartbreak, healing, and the inevitable cycles of life. The release is accompanied by the official music video for their latest single, “Say That You Will.”
“It Comes In Waves explores the cycles of being human,” shares Case. “Joy, grief, and love are all temporary experiences that we hold and then release. This album is about embracing the ebb and flow of life, holding space to honor and cherish times of your life while also letting them pass.”
Smith adds, “It is a phrase I’ve used in my life for a lot of different situations. There’s an ebb and a flow, and life is not what’s ahead of you. Life is what is happening to you at that moment.”
The album marks a significant milestone in the duo’s evolution, tracing their journey from Oregon teenagers recording in a childhood bedroom to becoming a resonant force in the indie-pop landscape. Tracks such as “I Disappear,” the introspective “Believe Again,” and the synth-driven “Secret Safe” anchor the album’s emotional foundation. Meanwhile, songs like the ‘80s-tinged “Dandelion” and the dreamy “Waterslides” highlight the band’s ability to balance the ache of endings with the fragile hope of new beginnings.
Following the massive success of their breakout single “Hot Blooded”—which has surpassed 134 million lifetime streams—New Constellations are currently hitting the road. After wrapping up their tour with The Midnight, the duo is set to perform at major festivals including BottleRock, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits, followed by an extensive headline tour across the UK and Europe this September.
