Transatlantic pop-rock quartet As It Is have officially released their highly anticipated live-recorded EP, So A-Live!, via FLG. Captured at the renowned Marshall Studios alongside the talented collective Espera, this project serves as a vibrant companion to the band’s self-titled fifth studio album, which recently secured the #1 spot on the Official UK Independent Album chart.
A New Chapter of Connection
Reflecting on the creative process behind the EP, frontman Patty Walters expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “We’re incredibly excited and proud to release the ‘So A-Live!’ EP, our first ever collection of live recordings,” Walters shared. “It was such a joy and a true privilege to spend the day performing alongside such talented and passionate musicians. The new embellishments and the absolutely unreal talent that Lyns, Mattie, Paige, Pete, and Blue brought to this session truly took these four songs to a new level.”
The Espera Collaboration
Lynsey Ward of Espera echoed these sentiments, highlighting the unique energy of the live session. “Writing and recording our feature on ‘I’m So Alive!’, the opening track on such a significant record in As It Is history, was already incredibly exciting. But there really is nothing quite like being in a room together and making it all happen live!”
Ward added, “The session was chock-full of infectious joy and camaraderie. Patty, Ben, Ali and Foley demonstrated such trust in asking us to write and perform additional vocal arrangements for ‘Do You Remember?’, ‘Live, Laugh, Love, Los Angeles,’ and ‘Marilyn,’ making it all the more meaningful that they now feature on this very special live EP release!”
Rediscovering the Band’s Identity
For the members of As It Is, this recent era represents more than just a musical output; it is a profound reconnection. Following years of personal challenges and lineup shifts, the band—comprising Patty Walters, Ben Biss, Ali Testo, and Patrick Foley—found their way back to one another as friends before returning to the studio. This shift in perspective allowed them to approach their music without the weight of expectation, focusing instead on the genuine joy of creation.
The resulting sound is a testament to their resilience and artistic growth, balancing heartfelt rock anthems with raw, honest songwriting. As they embark on their upcoming UK tour, the band continues to celebrate the identity they have rediscovered.
