After a long hiatus from releasing new studio material, the iconic Carly Simon is returning to the spotlight. While she has remained active through select live performances and guest appearances, her last full-length project of original songs was 2008’s This Kind of Love. Now, she is set to break that streak with her upcoming album, Comes in Waves, scheduled for release on August 14.

The new record was co-written and produced alongside David Spencer. Notably, the project features one of the final recorded appearances by the late John Forté. Simon, who shared a close friendship with the rapper and producer, played a pivotal role in his early release from prison in 2008. The album also includes contributions from her children, Ben and Sally Taylor, as well as longtime collaborators Paul Samwell-Smith and Frank Filipetti.

To mark the announcement, Simon has shared the lead single, “Howl.” Discussing the track, she explained, “’Howl’ lives in that space between betrayal and forgiveness, where anger has to be voiced before it can be released. It’s about letting the frustration out so it doesn’t sit and simmer. The song begins in anger, but it moves toward forgiveness, and speaks to any situation where trust has been broken.”
