Rising soulful pop powerhouse Maya Engen has officially unveiled her debut EP, Just My Luck, marking a significant milestone in the career of the fast-rising singer-songwriter. The project serves as a definitive introduction to her artistry, blending soulful pop melodies, expressive vocal performances, and a distinct, smoky jazz attitude across six emotionally resonant tracks. Just My Luck is available now via Giant Music.
The six-song collection features a variety of previously released tracks that have already begun to build momentum for the artist, including “Fool,” “Jade,” “Midnight Blue,” and “Mercury.” These are joined by the addition of “Spend My Love” and the project’s focus track, “Vinyl.”
Reflecting on the creative process behind the focus track, Engen describes “Vinyl” as a “funky, it-girl anthem about the girl everyone falls for but no one ever truly knows.” She notes that the song was inspired by her best friend, capturing the magnetic yet elusive nature of someone who keeps their true self hidden behind a charming exterior. “To everyone else, she’s impossible to read, keeping her cards close to her chest while everyone under her charm tries to guess the hand she’s holding,” Engen explains.
Engen’s rise has been steady and deliberate over the past year. Her unique sound has garnered early recognition from prominent industry outlets and secured her spots on high-profile editorial playlists, including Fresh Finds, Pop Sauce, and Breakthrough Pop. As she transitions from a promising newcomer to a headline act, Engen is set to celebrate the release of Just My Luck with her New York City headline debut at Baby’s All Right on Wednesday, July 15th.
