Following the early-summer release of “Welcome to L.A.,” the first single from their forthcoming EP, Sphinx, Hamburg art-house pop duo IVY FLINDT have returned with their brand-new single, “I Like The Weather.”
“Nothing comes for free/but the weather,” vocalist and songwriter Cate Martin sings with sweet aplomb over lush, emotive instrumentation on the track. The song serves as a poignant exploration of the unnecessary battles we endure en route to eventual acceptance.
“To state the obvious: ‘I Like The Weather’ isn’t about the weather,” says Martin. “It’s about hiking a rough trail until the rain strips away the bullshit. It’s about unpredictable love, and the strength you find when you walk away from pointless fights. It weaves a sweet, romantic heart with an uneasy undercurrent.”
In conjunction with the release of this stirring new single, IVY FLINDT—which includes multi-instrumentalist Micha Holland—have officially announced the release date for their upcoming EP. Sphinx, produced by Grammy Award-winning Danton Supple (known for his work with Coldplay, Nick Cave, and Amy Macdonald), is scheduled for release on November 13.
Supple, who produced the entirety of the project, praises the duo’s meticulous approach to songwriting and world-building. “You can tell they really think about what they’re doing — the whole image and the story connected around Cate’s lyrics,” Supple notes. “And it’s about creating a backdrop that supports that story.”
Blending enthralling melodies, vivid lyrics, and cinematic soundscapes, IVY FLINDT have built an international following through emotionally resonant songwriting and immersive performances. Their debut album, In Every Move, earned critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone describing the band’s sound as “a pop song cast in silver.” The duo continues to expand their reach, bringing their reputation for intimate, emotionally rich live shows to audiences across Europe and North America.
