Flohio is the project of British South London-based rapper Funmi Ohiosumah. One year after No Panic No Pain and 2021’s Whiplash, she has announced the release of the debut album called Out of Heart which will be out on October 7th. “Highest” is the first excerpt which comes with the official lyric video.
According to the press release, FLOHIO’s newly announced debut album is an opus brimming with brutal honesty and euphoric production, elevating FLOHIO’s lyrical steez. Almost two years in the making, its creation was fastened by the COVID-19 pandemic and its ensuing lockdown, forcing FLOHIO to halt her hectic touring schedule and renew her creative devices. Across 12 tracks, executively produced by industrial hip-hop innovators God Colony and Speech, it reveals the most vulnerable yet enduring version of FLOHIO. The result is a debut album flourishing with artistic poise, an elegant exploration of UK rap and its fringes.
FLOHIO details the album’s sound palette and its significance: “I grew up around the time of games like Playstations and Nintendos; I’m bringing back the nostalgia of me in my living room playing games with my friends at age 10. Game soundtracks like Final Fantasy and Super Mario. I wanted [Out of Heart] to speak to my inner child and where it all started while bringing me back to now and who I am today.”
