Los Angeles  saxophonist, guirarist and producer Sam Gendel has announced the release of a new album called blueblue which will be out on October 14th via Leaving Records. “Uroko (鱗, fish scales)” is the first excerpt. According to the press release, Uroko, like all of blueblue’s 14 track titles, refers to a pattern within sashiko, a traditional style of Japanese embroidery. Developed during the Edo period, sashiko involves reinforcing indigo-dyed cloth with white cotton thread. Sashiko pieces (traditionally clothes), are both functional and decorative, distinguished by their palimpsests of blue gradients, and the bright contrast of the white stitchwork.
