In a moment that bridged generations of alternative music, Olivia Rodrigo delivered a surprise for fans at Primavera Sound Barcelona last night. The pop superstar brought out legendary The Cure frontman Robert Smith to perform a brand-new duet titled “What’s Wrong With Me.” The performance marks a significant milestone for Rodrigo, serving as her first-ever original collaboration.
Addressing the crowd before the debut, an visibly moved Rodrigo shared her excitement: “This song is special to me for so many reasons, but primarily because it’s my first song I’ve ever done a feature on, which is really exciting. I can’t believe that this song exists with the person it exists with, and I’m just so fucking over the moon.”
The partnership between the two artists has been building for some time. Rodrigo has frequently cited Smith as a personal hero, and the pair previously shared the stage at Glastonbury last year to perform classic tracks like “Just Like Heaven” and “Friday I’m In Love.” The influence of The Cure is also evident in Rodrigo’s upcoming work; the lead single from her forthcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, titled “Drop Dead,” features a direct nod to the band’s catalog.
The Cure also made their presence felt at Primavera Sound this weekend, marking their first public performance since 2024. The set was particularly poignant, as it served as the band’s first show following the passing of guitarist and keyboardist Perry Bamonte in December of last year.
Fans can look forward to the full release of You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love on June 12. Following the album’s arrival, Rodrigo is set to embark on an extensive world tour that will keep her on the road through the spring of 2027.
