Black Bananas, the experimental trio led by Jennifer Herrema—known for her work with Royal Trux and RTX—have officially announced their return. The group has signed with Fire Records and confirmed that their upcoming album, Bad Bunch, is slated for release later this year.

This project marks a significant milestone for the band, as Bad Bunch will be their first full-length studio release in over a decade. Their previous effort, Electric Brick Wall, was released via Drag City in 2014. Despite the long gap between albums, the group has remained active in the underground scene, performing at various festivals including Freakout, Format, and Unhinged, while maintaining a presence through occasional jam sessions shared on their YouTube channel.

In addition to the band’s activities, Herrema has kept busy with various creative endeavors. Last year, she launched a new show on NQRA Radio. Her solo career has also flourished in the interim; she notably contributed to the Avalanches’ 2016 album Wildflower and curated a diverse soundtrack for a 2015 art installation that featured contributions from MGMT, Kurt Vile, and Hot Chip.

Fans looking to catch up on the band’s evolution can revisit their previous work, including the 2014 release Electric Brick Wall, as anticipation builds for the new material arriving later this year.
