Sam Wilkes is a bassist well-known in the Los Angeles jazz scene; we introduced him with the collaborative work with Sam Gendel and the 2018’s debut album Wilkes. Now he’s back with a new album called One Theme & Subsequent Improvisation which is out now via Leaving Records.
It was recorded during one improvisational recording session from June 26, 2020. Wilkes on fender bass, two drummers, a Maestro Rhythm King drum machine, and, later, two synthesists, began playing one repetitive theme that led to two subsequent movements of improvisation.
