Klangstof is the Amsterdam-based trio lead by musician and singer-songwriter Koen Van De Wardt, the former bassist for the Dutch band Moss. Back in 2016, We introduced them with the debut album Close eyes to exit. Now they announced released a new EP called Ocean View which is out now.
They explain: “It was composed and recorded between August and November 2021, which, for us, is an unusually short period to create a body of work. The whole thing was conceived and completed in one flow of consciousness.
Since we hadn’t been able to play live together for a while, we felt the need to record these tracks sitting in a room together, playing the songs from start to finish as a group. Most of the tracks have been recorded in just one or a few takes. The whole process was very refreshing, the energy in the room was incredible. We honestly think we’ve never sounded as much as a band as on this recording.
We’re used to spending at least six or seven months just fine tuning every little detail on our records. This time all sounds on the tracks were created or emerged from just that one moment we played that track together in the studio.”
