Shenzhen based sound artist and composer Kagami Smile has released a new album called You In Fog which is out now via Shimmering Moods. He explains: “‘You in Fog ‘was recorded during Fall of 2020. I was doing few things during this time, only working from home and staying indoors. The days all blurred together, much of the passage of time became meaningless as I went about my day the same repeatedly. At night I would reserve the hours of 12am-2am to make music. It became a meditative practice for me during the pandemic and helped me to escape inside another world. One that was free from physical and material suffering while the outside world was at its shackles. When I would retreat during these nights, I would find myself drawn to look outside my window at the swirling darkness outside of me. I felt this omnipresent darkness was a metaphor for looking within myself and confronting the darkness that was inside of me. This practice I still employ to this day as it helps my overall mental health. The name kagami is Japanese for ‘mirror’ and to me it means looking inward to the mirror of the physical and spiritual body and confronting it head on.”
