Gifts From Crows is the project of British composer and pianist Richard Laurence, known also as the the guitarist and songwriter in Sea Horses, a dark-folk music collective from the early 90s; he has also recorded 3 albums with acclaimed producer Dave Goodman for Mandala Records.

We introduced him with the debut album Holding a Thought Forever. He has released a new album called Stories in Slow Light. According to the press release, it is a collaboration between Gifts From Crows and photographer Helena Whitten, the album takes Helena’s evocative and fragile long exposure images and puts them to music. By sitting at the piano with a picture instead of sheet music, Richard Laurence (Gifts From Crows) created this 12 track album immersing himself in the beautiful world contained in each photograph.

Laurence explains: “Helena’s images are simultaneously timeless but also contemporary and speak to so many of the challenges that humanity is facing today – the fragility of the planet, the transience of life, loneliness and mental health. It is all there and these are also the themes that I explore in my music.
