MUNA have officially unveiled “Wannabeher,” the latest offering from their highly anticipated upcoming album, Dancing on the Wall. The track, which arrives alongside a music video directed by Dante Capone, serves as a poignant look at the complexities of human connection and the blurred lines between admiration and longing.
The single follows the release of “Big Stick,” a track that saw the band leverage their platform for social impact, raising over $20,000 for Pal Humanity through a limited 48-hour Bandcamp release. With “Wannabeher,” the band continues to lean into their signature sound while pushing into sharper, more introspective emotional territory.
Describing the inspiration behind the song, the band noted, “This song is our version of Bikini Kill’s Rebel Girl — it’s about the experience of really admiring someone and feeling confused about whether you want to be them or be with them or both. A gay canon event.”
The accompanying music video, directed by Dante Capone, mirrors this tension, oscillating between performance and introspection. It is set within the sweat-soaked, darker aesthetic of Dancing on the Wall, a record that promises to showcase the band’s total artistic control and self-directed creative vision. Produced by Naomi McPherson, the upcoming album explores themes of intimacy and identity against the backdrop of a world in constant flux.
Dancing On The Wall is scheduled for release on May 8th. To mark the occasion, MUNA will embark on a series of intimate performances in Los Angeles, New York, and London during the week of the album’s launch.
