U2 have released the Easter Lily EP, a new standalone 6-track collection. This release comes as a separate, self-contained project while the band continues recording sessions for their upcoming studio album, following last month’s Days of Ash EP.
While Days of Ash served as a response to global chaos, Easter Lily offers a more reflective, personal set of songs exploring themes of friendship, loss, hope, and renewal.
Track Breakdown
The EP features “Song for Hal,” a COVID-19 lockdown lament written for the late Hal Willner, and “In a Life,” a celebration of friendship. Other tracks include “Scars,” an anthem of acceptance; “Resurrection Song,” a track about pilgrimage; “Easter Parade,” a song of rebirth; and “COEXIST (I Will Bless The Lord At All Times?),” a lullaby featuring a soundscape by Brian Eno.
In a note to fans, Bono described the project as a way to dig deeper into their lives to meet the current moment, noting that the title is a nod to Patti Smith’s 1978 album, Easter.
