Swiss duo PLESS have announced the release of the debut album called Hypernormal which is out on January 14th. Their sound oscillates between beat driven tech and cinematic soundscapes. According to the press release, The tracks on the debut album „Hypernormal“ by PLESS occur in fictional places. These give the sound a defining environment. Physical and atmospheric features that define the space. Philipp Thöni has the tendency to externalize these places, whereas Leo Matkovic rather seeks out the inner spaces.
The titles potentiate these places or stand in contrast to them. Perceived in a sequence the listener travels to different places, covering distances of various lengths. Although sometimes far away from each other, all places belong to the same celestial body. Thus, when listening to „Hypernormal“, images emerge in front of the inner eye, sombre cinematic moods lit with occasional ecstatic gushes of ease. It’s an observation of worldly things, albeit perceived through a new dimension.
