Luke Cissell is a Kentucky native multi-instrumentalist and composer based in New York. He’s been session player credited on albums by artists as diverse as Ingrid Michaelson and Philip Glass. He has released a new album called Emerald Cities

He explains: “Sometimes I just get a sound stuck in my head and things grow from there… I take a step and see where the next one leads, and then to my surprise looking back it seems as though there were a logic there all the time, from the very beginning, and that I was chipping away the whole time like a sculptor with a plan.

But the truth is I make sense of things as I go along, as we all do on some level, I suppose. Music happens to be my main way of making sense of things in this world of ours, come to think of it. One thing I was reminded of over the last year or so is that beauty and magic are all around us all the time, going unnoticed much of the time until we look with the right kind of vision. I hope some of that magic made its way into this music.
