Thomas Méreur is a French composer and singer-songwriter. We introduced him with the 2019’s debut album Dyrholaey, he’s back with a new album called The Dystopian Thing which is out now via Shimmering Moods. He explains: “My debut album ‘Dyrhólaey’ (released in 2019 by British label Preserved Sound) was like an introspective journey mostly inspired by my trip to Iceland. It was written to be simple and minimalistic with nearly just my voice and piano creating wide and soothing musical landscapes.
In this new album ‘The Dystopian Thing’, I wanted to address more serious and global subjects about the world we’re living in and the climate change while enriching the music with new arrangements and experiments. Now you can hear some ethereal guitars and bass and I also deepened the work on the voices to bring even more depth to the songs. The idea was to create a contrast between the lyrics which convey a pessimistic vision of the world and the music that can be powerful or mysterious but also calming, soft, touching and sometimes glowing.”
