Yot Club, the multi-platinum indie-pop brainchild of LA-based Ryan Kaiser, announces his self-produced third studio album Simpleton, due out on April 17 via Amuse. His new single “Projecting,” out today, is the first offering from the record. Also announced today is his 25-date North American headline tour, with stops in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and more.

“Projecting” is a Weezer-esque indie rock track that embraces simplicity and patience both in its production and songwriting. Opening with accusatory lyrics, the song gradually softens into a contemplative bridge before resolving into a more empathetic, self-aware final chorus. The understated instrumentation creates space for its confident lyrics, making it a relatable first introduction to the album that resonates across both romantic and platonic breakups. The aesthetically rich music video, directed by Nathan Castiel (Model/Actriz, Remi Wolf, Surf Curse, Wild Nothing), features Ryan along with musicians Jordana, Faerybabyy, Blaketheman1000, and Anton Hochheim (Beach Fossils drummer).

Simpleton is Yot Club’s most deliberate and thoughtful album yet. It dismantles the utopian view of the American suburbs, treating finely manicured life as a mirage. Across its 13 tracks, the LP wrestles with how gated neighborhoods, curated feeds, and predictable routines can blur, and even erase, empathy and responsibility, creating a walled-off world where difficult questions and harsh realities are easy to ignore.

“When I first started, I was posting music into the void with no expectations that anyone would hear it,” Kaiser explains. “Under-mixing the vocals was really popular around 2019 and 2020, but I want the lyrics to cut through now because I’m putting a lot more care into what I’m saying. I feel more ready now to write about something nuanced, whereas a few years ago I’d probably just say, ‘I’ll write about my dog.’ I’ve realized it all has to mean something – otherwise, what’s the point?”

Like the music itself, Simpleton’s artwork, a painting from Jake Longstreth, one of Kaiser’s favorite artists, resists flash in favor of feeling. Instead, it’s a striking slice of Americana, a nondescript fast food joint pointing to the sort of malaise that can settle in when comfort replaces curiosity. At one point in Kaiser’s life, those familiar scenes were just scenery; now, as his understanding of the world and his place in it have grown, they read differently – reflective of a shifting sense of perspective and gravity that now marks his songs.
