The Silverlake Conservatory Of Music proudly presents Our Loving Tribute to Red Hot Chili Peppers – a four-track EP of RHCP classics reimagined by the SCM All-Stars, the Conservatory’s ensemble of outstanding student musicians. Executive produced by Flea, bassist and founding member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Merck Mercuriadis, founder of Hiphnosis Songs, the collection features fresh takes on “Subway To Venus,” “Sick Love,” “Hump de Bump,” and “Soul to Squeeze.” The EP is available to stream and download beginning today HERE. All proceeds directly benefit the Silverlake Conservatory Of Music.
“I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be tributized by. Student musicians are the best. Let’s all take a listen to how they interpret these tunes. Thank you Flea and good work Merck,” shares Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis.
“The kids! I’m so grateful that our music can be a vehicle for their spirits to fly. This is what music is for. I
am so proud of them,” shares Flea.
The SCM All-Stars recently previewed the EP with a show-stopping performance of “Hump de Bump” on Los Angeles morning television program, Good Day LA. Flea joined the students on trumpet, and discussed the Conservatory’s mission to make music education accessible, highlighting the organization’s crucial role in nurturing the next generation of Los Angeles musicians. Watch the segment HERE.
Our Loving Tribute to Red Hot Chili Peppers marks the final entry in a trio of tribute EPs released by the Silverlake Conservatory Of Music this year. The series began in May with Our Loving Tribute to The Pretenders and continued in July with Our Loving Tribute to Neil Young. Recognition Music Group / Hipgnosis Songs has graciously agreed to waive Mechanical Royalties from all three artists so that they can be donated to the Conservatory. The EPs have already received widespread praise from Uproxx, Flood Magazine, Hits, Bass Magazine, and more.
Silverlake Conservatory Of Music was founded in 2001 by longtime friends and musicians Michael “Flea” Balzary and Keith “Tree” Barry. After severe cutbacks to arts education programming throughout Los Angeles public schools, the two enlisted the help of their friend Peter Weiss and founded SCM to fill that void and bring music education to the community. SCM first opened its doors with a location at Sunset Junction. Initially offering private music lessons and scholarships to students in need, they expanded their programming to include ensemble classes, summer camps and workshops. In October 2016, after outgrowing their Sunset Junction location, they moved into their forever home at 4652 Hollywood Blvd. The music school now exists in a 1930s brick building featuring 13 state of the art lesson studios, a recital space and retail store all beautifully redesigned by Barbara Bestor.
