Having recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, Kraftwerk have announced three new editions of the landmark 1974 album Autobahn.
After re-visiting the original 16-track master tapes, Kraftwerk founder Ralf Hütter with engineer Fritz Hilpert have created a brand-new Dolby Atmos Mix which takes the listening experience of this seminal recording further and deeper than ever before.
The new Dolby Atmos Mix will be available as a Blu-ray disc and digital release, and for vinyl lovers, the stereo album is pressed as a highly attractive vinyl picture disc for the very first time, making it the only official picture disc in Kraftwerk’s discography.
Fahren, Fahren, Fahren Auf Der Autobahn…
The three formats of Autobahn, released on 7 March 2025, are as follows:
- Blu-ray audio disc featuring Dolby Atmos mix, 5.1 mix, stereo mix, 2024 edits of Autobahn and Kometenmelodie 2 (in Dolby Atmos mix, 5.1 mix, stereo) plus a visualiser video of Autobahn (edit) using Kraftwerk’s live projections. There is an exclusive edition of the Blu-ray which comes housed in a card slipcase which is only available from the official Kling Klang store and Super Deluxe Edition.
- A 12″ picture disc vinyl (2009 stereo remaster)
- Digital release of Dolby Atmos mix (Apple Music, Amazon, Tidal etc)
In addition, a new single edit of Autobahn, will be released on 7″ vinyl and digitally on 14 February 2025. The release will feature Kometenmelodie 2 on Side B and is available to pre-order here
Kraftwerk celebrate Autobahn at 50 with a headline appearance at the Forever Now Festival at Milton Keynes Bowl. Taking place on Sunday 22 June 2025, the all-day event also includes Billy Idol, The The and Death Cult. For full line up and ticket information click here
