Genre-upending artist Kill Dyll releases his rawest, most vulnerable, and most sonically rich project to date: ACT HUMAN, not god, a new mixtape that channels introspective lyrics into a sound that mixes the gnarled angst of ’90s rock with the unguarded expression.
Kill Dyll also just announced that he’ll be joining WesGhost’s CAN WE GO BACK TO SLEEP? U.S. tour in August, ahead of his performance at the hotly tipped One Big Party festival (Yung Lean, Nettspend, Diorvsyou) on October 25 in Phoenix, Arizona. The upcoming shows will mark the first time that the Denver songwriter, vocalist, and producer is bringing his new musical era to his rabid fans since ditching his famously terrifying masks in favor of showing his true self.
While listeners were previously treated to “PARASOCIAL” — a dark vision of modern fan-artist dynamics set to blistering grunge — ACT HUMAN, not god is otherwise all-new, featuring eight songs that find Kill Dyll working to embrace his flaws, shed insecurities, and leave behind the past. “cosmos” stands out, combining dreamy atmosphere and driving rhythms with lyrics that play like a mantra for anybody struggling to find their place in this life: “I’m just a speck of dust, in a sea of sand / Blowing through the cosmos, and when I land? / When I land, I’m home.”
Kill Dyll spoke on the push and pull that powers the song, and much of the project:
“‘cosmos’ is about the ongoing battle I experience working to keep myself in a state of balance and happiness. While I often feel depression creeping in, I’ve come to the realization that many people have been through what I’m going through, so I’m not alone. It’s very easy to feel like you’re the only one, but I try to remind myself we are all connected and share more experiences than we often speak about. Even though the cosmos is this dark, expansive space, all celestial bodies are connected through forces unseen and movements that keep them in orbit.”
As he’s unveiled new music across 2025 — including standalone singles “WILTED ROSE,” “THE COST,” and “START TO BLEED” — Kill Dyll has also been connecting directly with his followers online: sharing unreleased snippets, revealing journal pages, live-streaming mental health checks, literally burying his past self, and launching the Dyllinquents Discord during his first vlog. Longtime followers have had the opportunity to witness him evolve across projects, continuously challenging himself to push the boundaries of his music while exploring new ways to let loose raw emotion and provide relief to those working through dark feelings of their own.
Now, Kill Dyll furthers that mission hugely with ACT HUMAN, not god, a full-length that closes the gap between the artist and the actual person at the heart of all this viscerally moving music.
