Rising indie-alternative artist isitjosh has released the official music video for the deeply personal track “i used to dream.” The song captures the quiet ache of lost innocence and the struggle to hold onto hope in the midst of emotional turmoil. This is a standout song from his debut album A Collection of Short Stories About the Heart, which dropped earlier this summer.

“It’s one of those songs that I wasn’t sure would make the record in time. I had finished the piano and drums, but couldn’t for the life of me find the right words for it. I had just written a confessional style poem around the same timewhen I was at one of my lowest points mentally, and they felt like they were pulling towards each other. I made a few tweaks to make them work together sonically, and the song was complete. So happy with how it turned out, and I feel like the record would have been incomplete without it,” shares isitjosh.

With its stripped-down honesty, “i used to dream” continues to build on the momentum of isitjosh’s debut album A Collection of Short Stories About the Heart. Earlier this summer he released another DIY music video for “life of the party” featuring longtime collaborator JR Graves. Using fan captured footage from his album release show, he created a montage video that showcases the sense of community his music has created.

He is a voice on the scene unafraid to dig deep, ask questions, and reflect on navigating adulthood, loss, and reinvention. The record featured major players in the alternative music space such as Kellin Quinn and it was produced in collaboration with cmfrt (co-writer, touring guitarist) and sayvenus (co-writer, touring backup vocalist).

As a fully independent, self-made musician, isitjosh has built his community from the ground up. He has grown his audience organically, earning spots on over 10,000 user playlists through grassroots support and social media alone. isitjosh has made it his mission to create music about real experiences and honest storytelling. Without a label or major backing, he continues to connect with listeners through an authentic songwriting approach and a dedicated fanbase who supports him every step of the way.
