Beach Bunny has released a standalone new single, “Year of the Optimist” via AWAL. On it, frontperson/songwriter Lili Trifilio proves yet again what a generational talent she is for capturing interior emotional worlds and crystallizing vulnerabilities. The song pushes back on toxic vulnerability and Trifilio’s people pleasing tendencies. The song was written at the same time as the two times RIAA-certified Platinum band’s third album Tunnel Vision, which was released earlier in April 2025.
Beach Bunny—the name refers interchangeably to both Trifilio and the full band that also features bassist/lead guitarist Anthony Vaccaro and drummer Jon Alvarado—recorded Tunnel Vision in 2024 in Chicago with longtime producer Sean O’Keefe (Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack), who also produced “Year of the Optimist.” Where the band experimented with synths and samples on 2022’s Billboard #1 Heatseekers charting Emotional Creature, Tunnel Vision returns to their undeniably hooky guitar-based roots to deliver a modern power pop classic filled with existential fears and seemingly never-ending quarter life crises.
On September 7, the third annual Pool Party Festival will take place at Salt Shed in the band’s hometown of Chicago, headlined by Beach Bunny and featuring performances by Soccer Mommy, Annie DiRusso, Sidney Gish, and Great Grandpa. The festival was founded by Trifilio, who also curates the lineup with an emphasis on female/non-binary-fronted bands/artists.
