New England based post-hardcore band Actor Observer have released their second single of the year, “Pyrrhic Victory”. The track arrives alongside a dizzying performance video of haunting self-reflecton. Watch it now below.

Vocalist Greg Marquis said of the track, “Obsession over any ambitious pursuit can lead to harm if gone unchecked. Being too steadfast and hyper focused on a singular goal can create a sort of tunnel vision in which we neglect other important aspects of our lives, including the people we love. This song is about a time in my life when I did just that until I realized that not only was I sacrificing my own happiness and wellbeing, but also that of my partner. It was an important wake up call, a real “look at yourself” kind of moment, hence the mirror theme of the video. We tried to use mostly analogue/practical effects to create various disorienting illusions, using a special lens, found mirrors, and even a DIY 2-way mirror that I made with my co-director Michelle Mee. Our good friend Max Calkins (formerly of the band Katahdin) lent his powerful voice to the track and portrays a type of harbinger spirit in the video, holding up mirrors and forcing us to reckon with the parts of ourselves we may be too prideful or ashamed to admit might exist.”

Following the new single, the band will be on tour this September in Northeast Canada and parts of the U.S. supporting Kaonashi from Philadelphia (Equal Vision) and Salem Trials from Ottawa (Unbeaten Records).
