Okay, I think this is easily one of my favorite pieces lately.
You know how much I love r&b, soul, jazz & hip hop – and to have them all together in something so effortless… my heart melts.
This is all thanks to Nina Chiodin – an Italian songstress based in Berlin – and her “3.15am”. Her only 6th release, the song is wrapped up in warm piano chords, slick guitars, and slow drum groove. Aside from her gorgeously dreamy vocals, the song features a verse from Birmingham-based rapper M-path, making this an absolute perfection mid-track (hint: Nina raps a little, too).
Aside from all the smoothness, I love what the singer has to share about the meaning behind the track:
On the surface, the song is about a call for someone’s love for a night. However, on a deeper level, it thematizes the addiction to physical proximity in order to cope with loneliness and the use of sex as a distraction from negative feelings.
This quote and the song actually remind me a lot of the Netflix series “Lovesick” – which I highly recommend, btw. What a beautiful way to elaborate on these issues.
