A Desert Return
Sabrina Carpenter headlined the 2026 edition of Coachella on Friday, marking a triumphant return to Indio just two years after her breakout 2024 performance. In a recent interview, Carpenter described this year’s production as the most ambitious project of her career, a sentiment that was immediately apparent to the thousands in attendance.
A Cinematic Spectacle
The set began with a short film featuring Carpenter as a motorist pulled over by a police officer played by Sam Elliott. This cinematic flair set the tone for a performance that blurred the lines between a concert and a theatrical production. She launched directly into “House Tour”—a track recently bolstered by a music video featuring Madelyn Cline and Margaret Qualley—followed by fan favorites “Taste” and “Busy Woman.”
The performance was packed with high-profile cameos and surreal imagery. At one point, dancers dressed as poodles took the stage, while Susan Sarandon appeared to portray an older version of Carpenter. The surprises continued with Will Ferrell appearing as a bumbling electrician and Corey Fogelmanis, Carpenter’s former Girl Meets World co-star, making an appearance as a waiter. The narrative was further tied together by an interlude featuring a spiritual guide voiced by Samuel L. Jackson.
Building on Recent Success
This headline slot follows the release of Carpenter’s latest album, Man’s Best Friend, which arrived last September. The record serves as a follow-up to 2024’s Short & Sweet and has already produced several high-concept visuals, including the videos for “Tears” and “Manchild.” The latter track earned her a nomination at the 2026 Grammys, where she famously performed in character as a 1960s flight attendant.
Looking Ahead
As the festival continues, the momentum is set to build. Justin Bieber is scheduled to headline the main stage on Saturday, while Sunday night will see Karol G close out the festival, making history as the first Latina to headline the event.
