A Resilient Opening at Coachella
Turnstile took the stage at Coachella 2026 this past Friday with a powerful, somber, and ultimately defiant tone. Before the band—comprising Brendan Yates, Franz Lyons, Daniel Fang, Pat McCrory, and Meg Mills—launched into their high-energy set, the audience was met with a deeply personal moment. A pre-recorded video message from William Yates, the father of lead singer Brendan Yates, played on the screens, marking a poignant start to the performance.
The message arrived just one week after William Yates underwent emergency surgery following a violent incident involving Brendan’s former bandmate, Brady Ebert. Reports indicate that Ebert allegedly struck Bill Yates with his vehicle. While Ebert is currently in custody facing charges of second-degree attempted murder, he has maintained that his actions were taken in self-defense.
A Message of Unity and Resilience
In his address to the festival crowd, William Yates expressed his pride in his son and the band, highlighting their long journey together. “I’m Bill Yates, I’m the proud father of Brendan. They’re all sons of mine,” he shared. “They’ve been practicing in the house for about 13 years now. Just recently they vacated the basement. They’re at a point where the larger the venue the better, because they just enjoy the energy.”
He concluded his message with a direct sentiment of gratitude toward the band’s supporters: “To all the fans out there, we love you and Turnstile loves you and enjoy the ride.”
Following the emotional introduction, the band immediately dove into “Never Enough,” the title track from their most recent album. The set continued with a high-octane performance that included a surprise appearance by Blood Orange for their collaborative track, “Seein’ Stars.”
