Johnny Hates Jazz announce special London show at Union Chapel following their 2024 sell-out headline UK tour.
Comprised of Clark Datchler (songwriting, vocals, keyboards) and Mike Nocito (production, engineering, guitars), the band is best known for their 1987 single Shattered Dreams, which was a Top 5 hit in the UK, and reached No.2 both in Japan and on the US Billboard chart.
With hits like Heart Of Gold, the anti-war anthem I Don’t Want To Be A Hero, Turn Back The Clock (featuring Kim Wilde on backing vocals), and Don’t Say It’s Love, the band scored a No.1 UK album in 1988 with Turn Back The Clock.
Standing The Test Of Time
Reflecting with Classic Pop in 2022, Datchler said of the LP: “It’s interesting because, knowing the album so well, I had to have quite a bit of distance from it. But I’ve been doing a lot of performing recently, so it’s been back in my face a bit! I think it’s stood the test of time well.
“It’s difficult for me, because I was the main songwriter and I do tend to be song-oriented, but I think one of the reasons it’s weathered so well is the songs are of a certain standard… It’s got a foot in previous decades and a foot in the 80s.”
After disbanding at the height of their success, Clark and Mike reunited in 2010. Since then, Johnny Hates Jazz has released two new albums, 2013’s Magnetized and 2020’s Wide Awake, as well as a 30th Anniversary edition of Turn Back The Clock featuring acoustic versions of every song.
Fans will be treated to their iconic hits, as well as songs from their most recent albums, on 24 October when they play London’s Union Chapel.
