David Åhlén is a Swedish singer-songwriter and musician which we introduced with the 2016’s album Hidden Light. Now he has announced a new EP which follows 2020’s My Face Will Shine. It’s called Watch and Pray and will be out on March 4th via Jivvär records.

According to the press release, Åhlen’s falsetto is at the focal point of the music, inviting the listener to come close, almost within breathing distance. The electric baritone/guitar, synths, electronics and vocal layerings on the EP performed by Åhlén together with sparse string arrangements and harp by guest musicians seek to dissolve genres of alternative and classical music. The prayerful voice(s) against the backdrop of an ambient soundscape hints of a broad range of influences from artists like My Bloody Valentine, all the way to composers like Palestrina. Watch and Pray is a side step from the more imposing string/choir arrangements of Åhléns most recent release My Face Will Shine (May 2020, Jivvär Records), but retains the core of intimacy, a hallmark of Åhléns sound.

We already shared “And Her Voice Was Heard“; “My Only Treasure” is the new excerpt which comes with the official video by Fabian Rosenberg.
