Coronavirus: Here’s Every Festival That Has Been Canceled or Postponed [UPDATING]
Coachella, New Orleans Jazz Fest, Ultra and SXSW have all had to change plans
Over the past few weeks, coronavirus has hit the festival community hard. There’s been a number of cancellations or postponements to some of the biggest festivals as the coronavirus continues to spread. A number of artists have already dealt with the ongoing news by changing their itineraries.
Here’s an ongoing list of festivals that have had to change plans as a result of the coronavirus:
Latitude Festival, which has been canceled this year due to the global pandemic, has announced its 2021 edition will take place on July 22 – July 25.
Spledour in the Grass
Splendour in the Grass, which takes place in North Byron Parklands in Australia has postponed its fest to July 23-July 25, 2021. The fest also announced that Gorillaz, The Strokes and Tyler, The Creator will be headlining.

Serbia’s Exit Festival is officially canceled after initially pushing the event from this month to August. The 2021 dates will be announced at a later date.
Made in America
Jay-Z’s Made in America festival, which takes place on Labor Day weekend in Philadelphia, has been canceled.
Austin City Limits
Austin City Limits has officially canceled the 2020 edition of the festival and announced the dates for 2021. See more information below.
Bonnaroo 2020 is officially canceled. In its place, there will be a virtual event in September. Find out more information below.
Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Fest got pushed to next year. However, the lineup will be exactly the same.
Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight, meant to take place from June 11 to June 14, has been postponed to June 17- 20, 2021.
Levitation music festival will be postponed to 2021.
Organizers for Summerfest 2020 have announced that it is canceled. The festival will take place in 2021 instead.
Lovers & Friends Fest
Lovers & Friends Fest was supposed to feature some of the biggest names of the ’90s, ’00s and today in hip hop and R&B. There was even some controversy when it was announced. But, now, it’s not happening due to the pandemic. See the letter posted on the fest’s website below.
Dear Lovers & Friends,After much consideration and monitoring of the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are saddened to announce that Lovers & Friends Festival 2020 will not be taking place. J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival has been canceled, the fest announced in a statement on May 15. You can read it below.
Dear Dreamville Family: After much deliberation and careful monitoring of the current situation, we have decided to cancel Dreamville Festival 2020. Although we originally hoped it would be possible to bring you the festival this August, the ongoing uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 pandemic has made this timeline no longer possible. This decision has been extremely difficult to make, but the safety of our fans, artists, and staff is always our top priority, and nothing will ever take precedence over your well-being.

Green Man Festival
Organizers for the Green Man Festival have pushed the UK festival to 2021.
Reading and Leeds Festival
Two of the biggest British festivals have been canceled, it was announced on May 12.
Primavera Sound was set on celebrating the festival’s 20th anniversary. However, due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic, organizers have moved it to June 2-6, 2021.
Notting Hill Carnival
The Notting Hill Carnival has canceled their first festivities for the first time in 50 years due to coronavirus pandemic.
As most of this year’s festivals have been canceled, the Inkcarceration Festival has followed suit and said in a statement, “We held out as long as we could and worked extremely hard to find a way to make Inkcarceration happen this year — including exploring the possibility of a fall festival — but with the uncertainty of COVID-19, we must put the safety of fans, workers and bands first and follow the advice of health officials.”
Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals
In an announcement, both fests were being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “As devastating as it is to write these words, it’s balanced with a renewed sense of, well, HOPE,” executive producer, Jay Sweet said in a statement. “It’s Rhode Island’s motto for good reason, and it’s also the feeling our festival family, constantly exudes when we come together in good times and perhaps more importantly, in difficult times as well. This community is truly unlike any other in music, and I believe we can emerge from this adversity stronger and more connected than ever before.” The fest will be back in 2021.
Ireland’s Longitude Festival
Ireland’s Longitude Festival was meant to take place on July 4-6 in Dublin’s Marlay Park with Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator and A$AP Rocky as headliners. However, it’s been canceled.
Y Not Festival
Due to COVID-19, the Y Not Festival in the UK’s Peak District will take place next year. Ticketholders can swap their 2020 ticket for access next year and can be eligible for a VIP upgrade. Find out more info below.
Gathering of the Juggalos
This August, Insane Clown Posse’s annual event was supposed to take place in Ohio. The group has now canceled the festival.
Life Is Beautiful
The fest that takes place in Las Vegas became the first fall festival to cancel on April 21. It was supposed to take place Sept. 18-20. “We were more excited than ever to share the vision of this year’s festival with you. Instead, this moment has given us the opportunity to pause and assess what is truly important. It has given us the space to reflect and to grow, to refocus on our work, and to find new ways to give back to our community beyond the three days of the festival,” a statement from the festival read.
New Orleans Jazz Fest
New Orleans Jazz Fest has been pushed to April 22 to May 2, 2021.
Tomorrowland has officially canceled this year’s event. However, it plans to return summer 2021.
Burning Man organizers have moved from an in-person event to something more virtual. Find out more information here.
The U.S. rock music festival, which was originally scheduled to take place during Memorial Day weekend in Pryor, Okla., will be postponed to 2021.
Grace Jones’ Meltdown
Grace Jones’ Meltdown has been rescheduled to June 2021.
EDC Las Vegas 2020
Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas 2020 has been moved to Oct. 2 to Oct. 4, 2020.
Punk Rock Bowling
Punk Rock Bowling, which was set to take place on May 21 to May 25, 2020, has been canceled this year. Organizers have rescheduled the Las Vegas event for May 28 to May 31, 2021.
The National Homecoming
Homecoming 2020 has been canceled and will be taking place in 2021 instead. Ticketholders will be refunded at point of purchase or contacted in the coming days about the next steps.
On March 6, SXSW canceled this year’s event. “We are devastated to share this news with you. ‘The show must go on’ is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 34 years that the March event will not take place. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation,” a statement from the fest stated.
On March 10 after days of speculation, Coachella pushed its dates from April to October due to the coronavirus. “While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously,” Goldenvoice, the festival’s organizers, said in a statement.
Ultra Music Festival
Ultra was supposed to take place from March 20-22 at Miami’s Bayfront Park. The capacity for the event is 55,000 attendees per day. Major Lazer, Flume, Sofi Tukker, Above & Beyond were among the many artists who were scheduled to perform. There’s no date for it to be rescheduled this year.
Desert Stars pushed its fest from March until September due to coronavirus. “It’s never an easy thing to reschedule an event that has so many moving parts but I know that we are doing the right thing by our community by putting safety first. The consensus from our artists, vendors and fans has been overwhelmingly supportive in this. I would much rather that we wait a few more months when we can all get together safely than create an unnecessary health risk,” festival director Tommy Dietrick told SPIN.
Treefort Music Festival
The Boise-based fest announced on March 10 that it was pushing its dates until September. The event was originally supposed to take place on March 25-29 in Boise, Idaho. “In light of event cancellations around the globe and uncertainty about how this outbreak will impact Idaho, it was decided that postponing our festival is the best way to reduce unknown risk for our community,” Lori Shandro, festival producer and co-founder, said in a press release. “It was by no means an easy decision, but we recognize the far-reaching impact of our festival and our top priority is and always will be community.”
Winter Music Conference
In a statement posted on its website on Monday (March 9), WMC explained the reasoning behind the cancellation.“Due to the Florida Governor’s declaration of a public health emergency and the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention’s Interim Guidance for COVID-19, the 35th edition of Winter Music Conference, originally scheduled for March 16 – 19, 2020, will be rescheduled,” it read.
Big Ears Festival
On Wednesday (March 11), Nashville-based Big Ears Festival announced it was being canceled due to the coronavirus. “This has been a tough decision. Not only is the principle that “the show must go on” woven into our DNA, but the impact of this cancellation on the community that makes Big Ears possible — the artists, the festival attendees, our staff and production teams, and the Knoxville community with all of its businesses and workers — cannot be overstated,” a statement read. The fest is offering refunds for all ticket-buyers.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which was to feature performances by the likes of Lizzo, Gwen Stefani and Chris Stapleton, has been canceled. In the interest of public health, the City of Houston and the Houston Health Department have ordered the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ to close. The grounds will close at 4 pm,” a statement posted by the fest’s official account read. You can read the full statement here.
Snowbombing Festival 2020
The Austrian festival that had Liam Gallagher as its headliner, announced that it is no longer taking place due to restrictions on large events by the government. It was originally supposed to take place on April 13-18.
The festival announced on Thursday (March 12) it was being postponed due to the coronavirus. “From Lollapalooza Argentina, we are informing that we’re working on the reprogramming of the 2020 edition of the festival for the second half of this year. Faced with this unprecedented moment, our top priority is preserving the health and security of the public, artists and work teams and heed the preventive measures of government and health authorities. We will share more information soon on our website and social media,” a statement from the event read.
European country music festival C2C, which was to have Luke Combs, Eric Church, and Darius Rucker headline, has been postponed as of Thursday (March 12).
The same deal as Lollapalooza Argentina.
Download Australia 2020
Following My Chemical Romance’s postponement of shows in Australia and New Zealand, Download Festival Austalia has been canceled.
Under the Southern Stars
Australia’s Under the Southern Stars, which heads to 12 different locations in April, has been postponed.
Tribeca Film Festival
Following New York’s ban on events with 500 people or, the Tribeca Film Festival has decided to postpone its events in April.
The Dreamville Fest at Dorothea Dix Parkin Raleigh, N.C., will be postponed to Aug. 29. Any ticket holders unable to attend will be offered refunds.
Something in the Water Festival
Pharrell Williams’ Something the Water Festival has been canceled. The announcement appeared on the festival’s website and vowed to return in 2021. All tickets for 2020 will be honored at the 2021 event.
SoCal’s Beachlife Festival is has been postponed, though a new date has yet to be announced.
As the UK is ramping up their defense against the pandemic, Glastonbury has postponed its festival to 2021.
Shaky Knees Festival
The Atlanta-based rock event has been postponed until the weekend of Oct. 16-18. The good news here is that the headliners (The Black Keys, The Strokes and Smashing Pumpkins) will remain the same.
New Orleans Jazz Fest
The iconic event in New Orleans has been moved to spring 2021.
The fest that was supposed to take place on Memorial Day weekend has been pushed to Oct. 2-4. “We made this decision with the safety and best interests of our fans, musicians, partners, employees, and community being paramount. We are committed to putting on the festival to not only share great music and the incredible Napa Valley hospitality, but because it’s vitally important to the livelihood of all those who make BottleRock Napa Valley the festival it is,” a statement from the event read.
Cruel World Festival
After postponing Coachella and Stagecoach, Goldenvoice have announced that the Cruel World Festival will also be postponed to Sept. 12.
The Great Escape
The Great Escape, which was meant to take place on May 13 through May 16 in Brighton, UK, has been canceled. “The entire TGE family is so disappointed to have to make this decision and we extend our apologies to everyone who was looking forward to it as much as us,” organizers posted on the Festival’s social media.
Sonic Temple, Epicenter and Welcome to Rockville
In one statement, all three of these hard rock festivals were canceled for 2020. A statement posted on each fest’s website outlined the decision to cancel the event due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Firefly Music Festival
On March 24, Firefly announced it was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. It will return in June 2021.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Milwaukee World Festival announced that this year’s Summerfest has been moved to September 2020.
For the first time in 15 years, Mountain Jam won’t take place. Taking place in upstate New York, the event brings together roots, Americana and jam bands. The festival announced its cancelation on March 25.
The UK’s Download Festival has been pushed to 2021.
On March 26, the New York City festival announced its cancelation and will be back in 2021.
Lovers & Friends
The hip-hop and R&B fest featuring headliners like Ms. Lauryn Hill, Usher, Ludacris, Lil Jon and TLC, has been pushed from May to August.
All Points East
Meant to take place at the end of May, London’s All Points East Festival has been canceled and pushed to 2021.
Parklife, scheduled to take place in Manchester, UK, this summer, is moving their festival to 2021 due to coronavirus concerns.
As the UK is dealing with the spread of the coronavirus, London’s Lovebox Festival has been rescheduled to June 11-June 13, 2021.
One of the best and most diverse festivals in the world, Primavera Sound has been bumped back to the end of August.
III Points Festival
III Points Festival has rescheduled to October 16-17 and added Rüfüs Du Sol, ARTBAT, CHROMATICS and Peaches to its lineup.
CMA Fest has been pushed to next year and will now take place on June 10 to June 13, 2021.
Boston Calling organizers have officially canceled the festival this year due to the ongoing pandemic.
The event that was supposed to take place in May has been canceled. The announcement was made on March 31.
The festival has been rescheduled from May 30 to Aug. 1. All tickets will be honored for the rescheduled date.
Rolling Loud Miami
Rolling Loud has been postponed until President’s Day Weekend 2021. Good news though: the lineup will remain the same.
Rock in Rio Lisbon
Rock in Rio has postponed the ninth festival in Lisbon, Portugal, to 2021.
Live at Leeds Festival
The British festival, which was meant to be on May 2, has been pushed to Nov. 28 and will take place in different venues across Leeds, England.
The 50th edition of Roskilde has been canceled. The festival announced its intentions to move the event to 2021 on April 6.
The Canadian music festival announced its cancelation on April 6. “While this news obviously comes as a huge disappointment, we would like to acknowledge and applaud that the City is taking this necessary step to contain the spread of COVID-19 and alleviate the pressure on our health care system to best care for those affected by it,” a statement from the fest read.
Cincinnati’s Bunbury Festival was canceled on April 6. The Avett Brothers, Marshmello and Twenty-One Pilots were scheduled to headline.
Burning Man was cancelled on April 10. Organizers are preparing a virtual gathering in its place.
