ZONA is the project of Turkish sound artist and composer Cavit Ergün. He has released a new album called Silent City which is out now via Shimmering Moods Records. He explains: “The songs on the album were recorded and mixed april – july 2020 in Moda, Istanbul. 20 years ago I traveled by train to the south-eastern part of Turkey. The pictures in the album
were taken of an ancient city located on the shores of the Tigris River in Batman called Hasankeyf. I was able to see this remarkable archaeological site before it flooded in 2020 because of the Ilısu Dam project.
Despite local and international objections, this mega-project was responsible for putting 12.000 years of unexplored archaeological treasures, nature and local heritage underwater.This album is a dedication to the flooded city of Hasankeyf, in silence may you rest.”
