Maguire is the project of London based classically trained multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Gillian Maguire. She’s also recorded strings on numerous albums as Mystery Jets’ Curve Of The Earth (The Whole Earth Edition), and Marika Hackman’s Any Human Friend. We introduced her with the debut EP Préludes.

Now she has released a new EP called Fantaisies which is produced by Liam Howe (FKA Twigs, Lana Del Rey) and is out now via Seven Four Seven Six. According to the press release, ‘Fantaisies’, like its predecessor ‘Préludes’ borrows its name from the classical world – this time from Frederick Chopin. “The piano is the backbone of everything,” explains MAGUIRE, despite playing every instrument on the record.

‘Fantaisies’ hears MAGUIRE work through ideas and move through emotions, as if we are eavesdropping on her artistic process, one where songs are not written with ends in mind, but emerge intuitively. These songs are austere yet warm, exhibiting a brittle strength that reflects the conceptual complexity which underpins them.
